character information
● name: Jean "Jeannie" McKay
● canon: Stargate Atlantis
● canon point: Post 5x06 The Shrine
● age:38
● (canon) background: Stargate wikki
● abilities: Jeannie is a genius much like her brother Rodney. A talented physicist, loving wife, and mother.
● strengths:
Jeannie Miller is compassionate, empathetic, intelligent, friendly and open. This is a stark contrast to her brother, Meredith Rodney McKay, who influenced her by being everything that she doesn’t want to be. Her compassion and empathy make it easy for her to get along with and befriend those around her. She is friendly by nature and when on Atlantis makes it a point of getting to know the people that her brother works with. She is an open book to Rodney’s colleagues and often shares embarrassing stories from their childhood. Jeannie doesn’t do anything maliciously but, like any sister, does so because she knows it will get under her brother’s skin.
She has a genius level of intellect and is able to prioritize, quantify and understand complex topics. Instead of perusing more academia she meets Kaleb Miller and falls in love. This meeting reprioritized Jeannie’s life goals. She becomes pregnant and starts a family. The choice to give up science splintered her relationship with her brother for 4 years, however she never once regretted it. Jeannie is headstrong and passionate and follows what she believes in but she’s also open minded, allowing the things that define her happiness to change and develop with her.
She is a loving wife and mother. When it comes to theories she can become single-minded and focused and easily looks track of time. This is easily seen when she comes up with the theory to the bridge universe but also when she chooses a family over a career.
● weaknesses:
Multi-tasking is something that Jeannie struggles with. She feels that she needs to choose, family or science, instead of finding a balance between the things that she’s passionate about. Her world, while malleable, is also very black and white with little room for interpretation.
Part of this decision was also influenced by her brother’s shadow. Like her, he is a genus, but she doesn’t think that she’ll be able to contribute to the scientific community in the same way as he has. When she first makes her choice to pursue a family, Rodney doesn’t agree nor does he try to understand what Jeannie is looking for in her life. He thinks that she’s throwing away a promising future that she isn’t able to see and, while family is very important to her, she goes 4 years without speaking to her brother. She’s filled with doubt and never understands why people seek her out. This is seen by the way she behaves when she is contacted by the SGC about her theory about how to bridge universes. She doesn’t understand what exactly she did to garner such attention. She doesn’t realize at first how truly brilliant and revolutionary her simple theory is.
The term bleeding heart is too harsh, but Jeannie cares deeply for those around her and sometimes fails to see the big picture. She puts others before herself, even when she is in danger and injected with an alien virus, she won’t save herself if it means condemning another person. In this particular instant, she stayed to make sure that someone else’s child was safe. By doing this she almost dies.

[The device pops to life and Jean can be seen looking at the device quite curiously, not realizing the device is on. Her brows are knitted together and it is a second before she realizes the device is broadcasting. ]
Oh. this thing is on? of course it is. [She looks straight at the device, a tight smile on her face.]
Mere? is this one of your projects gone amuck?
[Because if it is..... she is so not impressed. She looks down at her lap and clears her throat. She shouldn't be here. She is a mother and a wife and helping her brother was supposed to be a quick thing. He had said that once. ]
My name is Jean Miller and I am not supposed to be here. Did I get kidnapped... again? Not that kidnapping is a normal thing because it's not, but I can't explain this. I mean, I could but I need more information.
Meredith probably knows. Oh, who am I kidding, of course, he does, and he isn't shy about telling you all how brilliant he is right? [Her words may be slightly snarky but her tone is fond and full of love.]
Is there a way to get messages home?
